Morriston Ladies Choir Cor Merched Treforys

Morriston Ladies ChoirMorriston Ladies Choir was formed in 1941. Originally the choristers were all members of the First Aid Defence Group but the present membership is drawn from all walks of life including housewives, lecturers, teachers, civil servants and nurses. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday at Tabernacle Chapel in Morriston and all new members are welcome.

The Choir give concerts regularly to raise funds for local charities and have performed with male voice choirs, military bands and orchestras. It has appeared on the Welsh Language programme 'Heno', and has been on local radio stations, namely Radio Wales and Swansea Sound.

On Friday 29th February 2008, Morriston Ladies Choir joined with the Morriston Rugby Club Choir and Cwmrhydyceirw Junior School Choir to celebrate Wales' Patron Saint, Saint David at Tabernacle Chapel, Morriston.  The Concert raised a total of £706 for the Diabetes Association, Swansea Branch.

The Choir's 67th Annual Concert Cheque Presentation to the Diabetes Association, Swansea Branchthis year was held on the 26th April, 2008 in Tabernacle Chapel, Morriston.  Our guests were the Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir from Southend on Sea, who performed an entertaining and varied repertoire ranging from 16th century madrigals, to classical, show and contemporary music. Their Musical Director, since 1990 is David Clark and their accompanist is Janet Walker. The Morriston Ladies Choir programme this year had a religious overtone as we have recently been on tour to Tuscany in May, and many of our venues required a religious programme.  As in other years, Morriston Ladies Choir performed under the baton of Musical Director Anthony Williams and Deputy Conductor Carole Edwards and accompanied by Maria Cotton our deputy accompanist. Long Service Awards were presented to members of the choir during the concert, Bronze award (10 years) to Sharon Davies, Silver award (15 years) to Patricia Ace, Mair Henwood, Valerie Howells and Gwladys Thomas.   Gold Award (20 years) to Jan Walters and Life award (25 years) to Jan Phillips.

Jan Walters, Jan Phillips, Gwladys Thomas and Valerie Howells receive Long Service AwardsIn previous years the Choir participated in the 'Festival of Welsh Ladies Choirs'; in the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea in 1993, St. David's Hall, Cardiff in 1994 & 1996, Afan Lido, Port Talbot in 1995 and at Rhyd-y-Car in 1999. The choir will appear again at St David's Hall, Cardiff in November 2008.

As well as performing concerts for charitable organisations, the choir also takes bookings to sing at other venues including weddings, social events, after-dinner engagements etc.

Through the dedication and hard work of the choristers and Musical Staff, the choir looks forward into this new millennium, hoping their efforts will be rewarded with a greater public awareness of ladies choirs such as the Morriston Ladies Choir.
